With our hectic lifestyle, it's really challenging to fit our favorite shows in our schedule. Most of us don't have time work but that doesn't stop us from streaming Netflix in leisure time. However, the luxury of Netflix is not something everybody can afford. All of us have a different approach when it comes to consuming premium content. The only thing that's for sure is that the pattern of consuming content is changing.
A majority of people in the United States watch television through cable or satellite providers. Although that's a huge number, it indicates a steep decline from an earlier 96%. The rise of streaming services and television on-the-go has come at the expense of traditional TV viewing experiences.
Internet TV is no longer the only way to watch streaming services. Streaming services such as TVPlayer still exist because of great demand.
What is TVPlayer?
TVPlayer is a live streaming service that allows you to watch content from your phone, tablet or laptop. With TVPlayer, you can stream 80+ channels out of which 29 are premium channels. The most appealing part about TVPlayer is that you can stream 70% of its content for free which includes channels such as Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Capital TV.
Another thing I like about this service is that you get all the channels in one place. For instance, you can access BBC iPlayer which just shows BBC channels for £5.99, as well as other channels. Additionally, you can make use of the on-demand service which has premium service TV channels with content available from the past one month.
History
TVPlayer started streaming live TV back in December 2013. It was launched as an internet-based TV subscription service in the UK, and it's one of the most beloved services around. TVPlayer streams live TV across a wide range of devices and features the UK's favorite free-to-air channels along with some premium channels.

This way, you won't have to wait for Ricky Gervais' crazy monologue or Dave Chapelle's acceptance speech for over two days.
Affordable Plans
TVPlayer is one of the many reasons why I fell in love with TV. There are plenty of streaming services charging an unreal amount of money. If you thought that was worse, think about these free streaming websites which stream pirated content and even charge $30/per month. Compare all of that to TVPlayer's plan and pricing and you feel like subscribing to the network.
Design
TVPlayer's homepage looks appealing to me. Sure, it doesn't have the most unique layout, but they definitely got the basics right. The website is well developed and it's fairly easy to navigate. The white background with a light grey element really helps the black and red text to stand out.
Distinctive Color Combination
Most of the leading streaming services have dark websites, so TVPlayer's white and grey color combination comes as a breath of fresh air. Another aspect I love about this service is that they don't bombard you with daily newsletters when you sign up for it.
Clean Hero Section
The main slider banner has three supporting text boxes on the right, each with a short message accompanying it. As you scroll down, you see tiny logos of all the channels on the network, in three rows. As you scroll further, there's another banner with a CTA ?Try For Free?.
Well-Defined Categories
You can also browse TV shows and movies by genre, actor or director, or find the latest new releases. The ?On-Demand? section offers a wide range of content that you can watch right away. You can also choose to watch programs on an individual episode basis, or in a continuous stream. The ?TV Guide? page lets you search for shows by title, network or genre. Channels is a list of all the channels that are available on the website. Finally, the ?Apps? section has links to various apps that are related to television programming.
Content
TVPlayer is one of the most popular platforms with popular channels catering to a wide range of audiences. With 50+ channels, it has a variety of genres, such as Drama, Reality, News, Sports, Kids, and Lifestyle.
Even though the network's content library isn't as extensive as Hulu's, it makes up for it with free and premium British channels. The British influence is clear in the channel lineup, which has plenty of TV shows and movies that are typical of the UK. If you're from the US, you may not be too impressed with the network's offerings, but if you're a fan of British television it's worth checking out.
Desktop/Mobile experience
I tried streaming the website on my iPhone 7 and on a Roku device. Honestly, the app is so lightweight, I couldn't believe that the app was 4MB lighter than My5 app which I thought would be the lightest on my phone. The streaming experience from all the devices was exceptional, to say the least.
Basic is Free but not Ad-Free
Even if you don't want to subscribe, you can still watch most of the free-to-air channels for free. These channels would carry ads through the TVPlayer to compensate for the free viewing experience. However, that takes nothing away from the whole experience as there are no third-party annoying pop-ups or clickbait ads.
Compatibility is not a problem
If you click on the Apps category in the main menu, you'll be taken to a new page with a list of compatible devices. Here, you'll find links to app downloads for various devices such as Android, iOS, Chromecast, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and even gaming consoles such as Xbox.
Content availability can be a problem
Some times when I'm streaming TV shows, I can't because there are restrictions on the TV shows.
Plans & Pricing
TVPlayer has two plans: Basic and Premium. The basic plan offers free content but with advertising. The premium plan costs £6.99 and it offers more than 80 channels which can be watched in HD clarity. One thing I would like to highlight is that you can only stream one device at a time. It's pretty annoying, isn't it?
Suggestions I have for TVPlayer
I think the network should expand beyond its British roots and partner with leading studios all over the world to offer more competitive content. We've seen collaborations between Disney, Paramount, Fox and other major studios working well for us with their platforms like "Movies Anywhere." I'd like TVPlayer to do something similar and improve its content library so that it appeals to a wider audience.
Conclusion
I don't have any complacency against the TVPlayer streaming service. However, when you compare it to the likes of leading services such as Hulu, Netflix or Prime Video, it's nowhere to be seen. I'd suggest you stream TVPlayer for free if you want to watch the free-to-air content. And as far as premium content is concerned, I don't feel it's worth the investment.
