There are many services out there that aren't intended to be a cord-cutting alternative. A media server such as Tversity is designed to help you watch local content along with streaming online content. However, they cannot replace a cable, satellite or premium streaming service. Sure, you can watch streaming services such as Hulu or YouTube via Tversity but you can't subscribe to live feeds.
What is TVersity?
TVersity is a media streaming server that allows users to view local and online content. It's simple to use, allowing users to stream media on compatible devices. TVersity works with a wide range of platforms, including PC, TV, gaming consoles, and mobile devices.
History
TVersity started its journey back in 2005. In 2005, Tversity made a software that helped to transcode media for personal use, like Xbox 360 did not support many codecs. This was huge back then because it helped make video compatible with Xbox 360.
Why should you use TVersity?
There are many reasons to use TVersity, one of which is that the audio-visual compliant server makes watching media easy. You only need to install the application software on your Windows PC and you're good to go. Here are several reasons why you would love Tversity:
TVersity is a great audio-visual compliant server, making viewing media very easy. All you need is installed the application software on your Windows PC and you're ready to go! Here are several reasons why you would love using TVersity:
Digital Content Hub
Tversity is a digital content hub that can be setup on your computer. Once set up, it will organize all of your digital content and make it accessible from all of your devices. This makes accessing content easy, as you no longer need to hunt for media files and check them out individually from hard drives. You can simply access the library and search for what you're looking for.
Automatic content channeling
Regardless of where the content is located - online or locally - Tversity streamlines the entire content streaming process. The media server saves all your preferences and various channels that you want to access, and stores it on your server. Even if a particular file is difficult to parse because of the codec issue, it?ll help solve the problem. With Tversity, you get various platforms such as YouTube, NBC, CBS, and Flickr in one place for all your entertainment needs.
Bug & Lag-Free
Some free software comes with adware, malware, and spyware. Thankfully, Tversity is not one of those. Not only do you get clean software without any malicious activity, but you also get an efficient media management tool that enhances your content viewing experience. You also have complete control over this server- so you can add and remove stuff based upon your preference.
Speed & Performance
Many amazing software applications have few performance issues. Your hardware and speed of your network are solely responsible for the performance. However, Tversity is one of the best free software for media servers that I have come across. We all have gone through the nightmare of sharing media through Windows Media Player, so once you start using Tversity, there is no looking back.
Commendable Flexibility
Tversity is easy to use and configurable. If you have a stable network with a powerful host PC, you won't face any issues. Even if certain audios and videos aren't in the same format as supported by your viewing device, the encoding will get the job done. If you have a PC with decent spec, this shouldn't be a platform at all. And we do need to give credit to Tversity for being such a flexible home theater media sharing platform.
Setting up TVersity
Many people who are just starting out find setting up Tversity to be complicated. So, you can follow the steps below to make sure that setting up Tversity is a hassle-free process.
System Requirements
The modern PC requires a 2.8GHz processor and at least 1GB of RAM to run efficiently. Other than that, we recommend using the latest versions of Flash, Firefox or Chrome. If you are required to transcode HD videos in real-time then a multi-core system will be required and this will also use up a lot of hard drive space. So, it is best to have at least 4GB of memory on your PC or laptop.
Third-party filters
To be able to use DirectShow filters with Tversity, you need to meet the basic requirements and install several third-party filters from our forums. These include codec packs for video transcoding, like ffdshow tryouts. Once you have them installed, make sure you reinstall the software.
Installation Process
If you meet all the system requirements and have added third-party filters to your mix, installing Tversity shouldn't be problematic. You can get the software from the website, click on download and once it's done start installing it. At the end of the installation, you'll get a notification suggesting ?ffdshow was not found?. If your PC doesn't have its own codec pack, you'll need ffdshow if you want to use Tversity's video decoding capabilities.
How to access TVersity?
If you want to access Tversity, you can either search for it or click the screenshot of it on the left. If you've followed the steps above, downloading and installing Tversity would be incredibly easy.
Design
Overall, TVersity doesn't look that modern-looking. It has a dated design with fancy banners and a dual-option body section. But it's easy to overlook its clean interface, and the design doesn't look bad.
Header
The header section on the website has a logo on the left and five options - Home, Download, Buy, Support, and Blog. Besides theseoptions, you can find a search bar if you want to learn about something specific on the website.
Hero Section
You also have a ?View Full Screen? link that takes you to a full-screen view of the media servers.
The banner over the hero section reads "TVersity Media Servers - Media Sharing and Screen Mirroring?" Beneath it are three buttons - "Free," "Buy," and "Learn More." As you scroll further, you'll find "Media Server?" and "Screen Saver" with brief descriptions beneath each point. You also have a "View Full Screen" link that takes you to a full-screen view of the media servers.
Body
The two parts of the body section are Tversity for iPhone and Tversity Pro for iPhone. Under these CTAs, you'll find a featured section with logos of the websites where the platform has been recognized. This includes TechCrunch, PCMag, and Gizmodo among many others.
Footer
The footer section has three options - About, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use? on the left and social media icons on the right. At the center, there's a Facebook and Twitter button so you can like the platform with a single click.
Desktop/Mobile experience
I had a great time using the Tversity program to consume local and online content. I used the program guide to browse through all the local files. You'll find all the popular US-based content, such as NBC's Meet the Press, CBS News's podcast. One thing you need to know is that not all content is available in the free version. If you want to access channels such as BBC and other premium networks, you need to upgrade to TVersity Pro. The best part about the free version is that you get access to YouTube.
Personally, I never considered online streaming to be the biggest strength of these media servers. I've always used them for media management. The library, customization options, easy access and organization of media is why I love Tversity. It's a perfect platform to set up your audios, videos, and image files that you can stream later. Apart from local files, you could even have content from Flickr (Images) and YouTube (Videos).
Once you've configured the library, you can stream all the content on various devices on your network. These include TV, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, PS3 and PS4, Smart TV, Android and iOS devices among many others. You don't even have to worry if the device does not meet the requirements because Tversity will transcode media to suit the device which will automatically make it compatible. How awesome is that?
Plans & Pricing
The two offerings at Tversity are the Screen Saver and the Media Server. The Screen Saver has a trial for free, and the full version is available for purchase at $14.99. On the other hand, the Media Server has a free software version and a premium one that is priced at $14.99.
Suggestions I have for TVersity
It seems like my website is working just fine, but there were some bumps along the way. For example, when I added my YouTube account, it only showed the videos that I had uploaded and couldn't browse the platform. I hope this issue gets fixed soon because on PlayOn this feature seems to work just fine.
Conclusion
If you're in the market for a media management hub, Tversity Media Server is definitely worth considering. It has amazing flexibility and performance, making it an essential tool for anyone who wants their own server. The media center allows you to combine your local and online media sources, making it easy to keep everything organized.
