If you're tired of paying monthly subscription fees for Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon Prime Video, then Tubi TV is a free alternative that you must check out. Similar to Crackle and Pluto TV, Tubi is absolutely free and is supported by ads. Thanks to an array of licensed TV shows and movies, Tubi allows you to stream content without spending a dime. But since it's a free streaming service, there are certain pitfalls: some people find the content on the platform compelling, while others don't. It's more like a hit-or-miss effort whose results are entirely subjective.
What is Tubi TV?
Tubi TV is a streaming service where users can watch movies, TV series, and other forms of on-demand content. Instead of charging its users for the content, the platform resorts to video ads. This helps it to generate revenue. Tubi TV, as a creator, doesn't have any original content and thus relies on thousands of hours of on-demand content to keep the service functioning.
Since its inception in 2014, Tubi has expanded to overseas markets such as Australia and Canada. In August 2019, the company announced that its active user base had surpassed 20 million people, which gave it a higher ranking than Crackle or Pluto TV in terms of users. The best part about Tubi is that it isn't owned by a major media conglomerate and is the largest independent-streaming site in the US.
You don't have to give your credit card details or subscribe to this service. Simply choose the content you'd like to watch and start streaming right away. Before streaming on this service, think of it as a regular TV channel because it does have a few ads. But if we were to compare it with Crackle or Pluto TV, it's way better.
There's a lot of variety on Tubi TV, from comedy to drama to kids shows. You can find anything you're looking for, and the developer updates the app every month which means you'll always have new content to watch. Another great thing about Tubi TV is that it's in HD quality, so you can enjoy the shows without having to compromise on quality.
What should you expect from the Tubi TV App?
Tubi TV is a great way to enjoy movies and television shows for free. You can find popular titles, like Wendy Williams and Paternity Court, as well as new releases. The platform updates content weekly, so you always have the latest offerings.
Excellent Compatibility
Tubi might be an independent streaming network, but it provides excellent compatibility. You can watch all the content that you find on the app on your big screen devices via Airplay or Chromecast. Apart from these devices, you can watch content on your Android devices, Xbox gaming consoles, Xfinity, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung TV, among many others.
Premium Features
If you're a streamer who likes to binge watch your favorite shows, then Tubi is definitely the platform for you! With Tubi, you can keep watching your videos where you left off no matter what device you're using. If you decide to sign up on the platform, then not only will you be able to continue watching where you left off, but you'll also be able to access all of your past videos. This is great news for me because I tend to get lost in a show while I'm watching it and forget what happened during the last part of the episode.
Multiple Genres
So, whether you want Indian content, Spanish subtitles, or Japanese anime, you can find it here.
As I mentioned earlier, there is something for everyone on Tubi TV. The variety offered on this platform can be understood via its genres. You can choose content from a wide range of genres, such as Drama, Comedy, Action, Horror, Anime, Korean, Spanish, Hollywood, and much more. According to a reputed streaming site, the genre-based category is in fact the best feature on this app. Why? Because the diversification isn't just based on genres and has been sorted via languages too. So whether you want Indian content, Spanish subtitles, or Japanese anime you can find it here.
No Sign-up
Tubi TV doesn't require you to commit to a monthly fee, or sign a yearly contract. Just download the app and start streaming for free! However, if you want to make use of premium features such as content tracking, you can sign up if you'd like. This is optional, but it will enhance your streaming experience.
Tubi TV App Information
The Tubi TV App is only around 22mb! Even if you don't have enough space on your device, I'm sure downloading and streaming on this platform wouldn't be much of a problem. Tubi TV was last updated on April 5th, 2020, and still works fine with Android devices with OS above 4.0. As for popularity, the app has been installed more than 50 million times which makes it one of the largest independent streaming services across the US.
How to access Tubi TV?
You can access Tubi TV from any device. It supports over 25 different devices, including Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV. Other than the app on Android and iOS platforms, there are native apps for most of these compatible devices. You can access the app directly once you download it. However, if you want to watch R-rated content or a title with a mature rating, you'll have to sign-up and verify your age.
Design
Tubi?s user interface is straightforward and easy to access. The homepage on the app features a clean design with a range of categories to search through, making it easy to find what you need. The thumbnails are colorful and lively, making the app more inviting and fun to use. Aside from the Chromecast button on the top right for direct casting, there are no other fancy features. Tubi just provides a basic but effective user interface that is easy to navigate.
Content
Tubi TV generally has a massive catalog of on-demand content. You can find blockbuster movies and TV shows on the platform. Sure, the overall catalog may seem a bit dated, but you can't really expect much from a free streaming service.
Movies
Tubi TV sources content from major studios, and as such, it shouldn't be a surprise that it has many killer titles featuring stars such as Leonardo Di Caprio, Michael Fox, Jennifer Lopez, and Meg Ryan. As for titles, you can find iconic movies such as ?Kill Bill?, ?The Aviator?, ?Teen Wolf?, ?The Passion of the Christ?, ?Maid in Manhattan?, ?Memento?, and ?Donnie Darko.?
TV Shows
Since Tubi helps users access the A&E library, you will find an impressive amount of reality TV series. If you're not into reality TV, the TV Shows category might come off as lackluster to you. A few of the popular titles that I found on the platform were as follows: ?Major Dad,? ?Punky Brewster,? ?Duck Dynasty,? ?Hell's Kitchen,? ?American Pickers,? ?Storage Wars,? ?The Apprentice,? ?Unsolved Mysteries,? ?"Alf," and "The Beverly Hillbillies."
Original Content
As of right now, Tubitv doesn't have any originals. So, if you're into the Originals series, there's not much for you on this website.
Desktop/Mobile experience
I really enjoyed streaming content on Tubi TV more than Pluto TV and Crackle. The ad-video ratio is much better than those two platforms, and I streamed an action movie on the platform, and I was really pleased to see the first ad appear around the 35-minute mark. Compared to those other services; you don't even have to watch 5% of the ads. Even the ads that appear are short and don't affect the streaming much.
Suggestions I have for Tubi TV
I really like this platform. It's been designed well and I'm sure the user experience has been taken into account. However, it would be great if the developers increased the content depth and added some top and trending shows to the network.
Conclusion
Although it lacks original content, you can still enjoy the best quality of Tubi's content without paying any money. While the latest content is not always up to date, you can access more than a thousand hours of content from popular studios with top stars.
