When it comes to subtitling movies and TV shows, you might be surprised to learn that there is an enthusiastic community of volunteers around the world who love getting involved in finding, creating, and translating the best subtitles possible. These people work tirelessly, often for free, all year long in order to offer their services in making closed captions, syncing, or translating subtitles that already exist.
It seems strange to me that someone would choose to do a task that is apparently mundane and tedious for free. I can see how it could be viewed as altruism, though, as it allows more people to access information or entertainment that they may not be able to otherwise. By subtitleting videos, subtitlers are opening up the door for others who may not be able to read or understand the original language.
Many movies and shows produced in their original language are inaccessible to viewers who do not understand the original language, often because of barriers such as cultural differences or linguistic barriers. Although this is not always the filmmakers' intention, it is a result of creating art in one's native tongue.
Not all forms of exclusion are intentional or explicit. There are people who work towards making art more inclusive by subtitling and translating movies, TV shows, and documentaries. Obviously, a writer is going to write in his or her language - the fact that language is exclusionary is a different issue.
Without subtitles, deaf and hearing impaired people would be unable to watch movies and TV shows, regardless of language. However, subtitles make this community inclusive by providing a way for everyone to understand the dialogue.
This is why there are thriving and active communities of subtitle enthusiasts out there, hard at work, translating every piece of audio in a movie into words. Or translating those words into other words of a different language. It is truly a noble task. And I applaud and salute all of those who utilize their free time to help others in this way. You deserve far more credit and appreciation than you receive.
I suppose what I am trying to say is that, thankfully, the people who spend their time subtitling movies and TV shows are really into it. This is why you can usually expect a subtitles site to transcend being merely a site on which you can download subtitle files.
Many subtitling communities are robust and enthusiastic, which is great news for anyone who cares about subtitles. They're also interested in movies and TV, so even if you don't want to create subtitles yourself, you'll likely find interesting conversations here.
This is one of the first things that I look at when evaluating a subtitles site. They usually have a forum or something similar where subtitlers and movie enthusiasts can discuss techniques for subtitling, their favorite films, and so on.
This is not necessarily going to make or break a site. I suppose, at the end of the day, it really just boils down to what you hope to get out of your subtitle site. Are you someone who likes to participate in creating subtitles? Or are you someone who simply needs a reliable and user-friendly means of accessing subtitle files quickly? If the latter is the case, today?s site is probably right up your alley.
Titlovi is a site that falls into the latter category, and they've done an amazing job of integrating their subtitles with the rest of their site. The Titlovi website is a Bosnian subtitles site that I really enjoy. There are two types of subtitle sites online: those with forums and those that have movie information and subtitles up front. The Titlovi website is a site that falls into the latter category, and they've done an amazing job of integrating their subtitles with the rest of their website. There are all kinds of extras on this site, like videos about Bosnian history, movies with Bosnian subtitles, and so on. I highly recommend visiting Titlovi if you're looking for a great subtitle site to explore!
I'm happy to say that Titlovi seems to be the best of both worlds. They have provided tons of high-quality subtitles, some of the best site design I have seen, and an active and thriving community. Could Titlovi be the best subtitles site of 2020? Let's dive in and find out!

Design

I just said that Titlovi offers up some of the highest-quality site design when it comes to a site like this. Unfortunately, subtitles sites are not exactly known for their stellar, responsive, or user-friendly site design. In fact, more often than not, a subtitles site will be very shoddily thrown together, extremely data-heavy, and not super easy to use or navigate (not to mention unpleasant to look at).
Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at Titlovi's home page. The site is image-based and sleek, with high-resolution images of movie posters and featured items speckling the front page in a way that makes it look less like a traditional subtitles site and more like an entertainment news site.
The site menu bar is responsive and offers dropdown menus with a flare of style when you hover your cursor over them. You can choose from the following: Home, Articles, Subtitles, Movies, Series, Forums. Or, of course, you can type in whatever title you are looking for and conduct an easy search straightaway.
I think it would be really easy to browse for subtitles if they had a more complex tag system, or if you could browse by language.

Content and Features

The site menu bar of Titlovi tells a great story. This site is more than just high-quality subtitles; it functions as an entertainment news, film and tv series archive, and info site. Plus, it has a forum.
Looking for news about movies and TV shows? Titlovi has you covered! Here you'll find announcements, box office numbers, and reviews of recent media productions.
On the forum, you can talk about just about anything you want. The majority of posts are about movies and TV shows, but this is an open forum where members of the community can discuss anything that is on their mind (assuming it remains within the community guidelines).
Titlovi has a huge collection of subtitles which you can browse at any time.

Mobile and Desktop Experience

Titlovi is optimized for mobile devices, offering a different (and equally intuitive) layout when you access the site on your phone or tablet. Again, this is a rare design trait when it comes to subtitles sites, so I am very happy to see that Titlovi offers such a mobile-friendly experience.

Suggestions that I have for Titlovi

As I said before, I would like to see Titlovi expand their browsing and searching tools. A solid tags system outlining, say, actors, languages, movies, networks, etc. would make it much easier to browse the immense archive of movies that Titlovi has subtitles for. Also, an advanced search function would be helpful. When you are dealing with so much content, you need to have a solid means of finding what you are looking for.
