radio.net
Radio.net is a successful website that provides a great streaming service for people around the world. With a team of dedicated professionals, Radio.net makes it easy for everyone to find the radio stations they love.
What is Radio.net?
Radio.net is a website that offers access to over 30,000 stations and podcasts through a range of devices. It is one of the most popular radio streaming websites in the world, thanks to its apps and traffic numbers.
History
Radio.net network was started in 2007 under a different banner - radio.de GmbH. Initially, the website went live with just 1000 stations. Ever since its launch, radio.net has allowed its users to browse through the website and listen to the favorite stations from around the world. Just 3 years after its launch, the channel added 3000 additional stations which took the tally to 4000. Fast forward a decade and the website now has over 30,000 radio stations!
After the network reached 4000+ stations, it launched its own premium service called Prime which allowed listeners to stream ad-free. An affordable way for users to download the app and join the radio.net ecosystem, with support for Google Chromecast. The network is trying to increase compatibility and support so that an increasing number of users can become a part of its radio.net ecosystem.
Why should you stream on Radio.net?
Radio.net has a lot of content, both local and international. You can find a lot of podcasts on the website, and the staff at Radio.net will often recommend content specific to your interests.
User-intuitive website
With an extremely clean interface and clear categories, finding your favorite station becomes easy. Each section on the website has a purpose and adds to the overall user experience in some way, such as using the sorting option to not just sort channels by genre or location, but also by theme. This unique feature makes the site stand out from traditional radio streaming sites.
Personalized Experience
These are all great features that make it easy to listen to your favorite radio stations on your phone.
We've seen how machine learning in streaming apps can learn about our taste and preferences, and the same is true with radio.net. It allows us to save our favorites, listen to selected radio broadcasts again, and keep changing the homepage section to meet our taste. It offers clear search options so we can find related stations and songs that we like. These are all great features that make it easy to listen to our favorite radio stations on our phone.
Great Podcast functions
If you're looking for something new to listen to, you should check out the Radio.net network. It has a wide range of podcasts that cover a variety of interests, and it's easy to find what you're looking for thanks to features like direct episode playback and automatic deletion of old episodes.
Offline Viewing
While most of the radio streaming sites have not yet expanded their service enough to provide this feature, radio.net truly begs to differ. You can search for podcasts, decide whether you'd like to download episodes, and then listen to these podcasts offline. I often find myself downloading Crime Junkie and listening to it in my spare time.
How to access Radio.net?
You can access Radio.net in a couple of ways. One way is to visit the website using your browser, and the other way is to download an app that has premium features so you can make full use of the content and podcasts. I like that you don't need to go premium to enjoy most of the content and podcast features on this service.
Design
Radio.net has a sleek design that makes it look high-end right from the start. The dark grey background with white text and green accents gives it a luxurious feel. The developers have maintained a consistent color combination throughout the website and thus everything flows well together.
Header
When you visit radio.net, the first thing you notice is the exciting homepage banner and header section. Instead of left-right placement, radio.net has everything centered on the page. There are nine key options - Home, About Us, Broadcasters, Advertising, Press, Jobs, Blog, Contact and Language. Each of these options has its own dedicated inner page to provide more information about the subject matter.
Hero Section
As you scroll down the homepage on radio.net, you see a basic template with a work desk, coffee cups, and magazines. Above the desk is a banner that says "Welcome to radio.net." The text below the banner explains what to expect on this website.
Body
The square banners on the radio.net body section highlight the web and in-app services. The left banner relates to the browser, and the right banner suggests that the app is available on App Store, Google Play Store, Windows Store, and even on Blackberry.
Further down you'll find news stories from September 2019 that are still being reported today. There are also two illustrations: one of your station on Radio.Net and another of advertisements on Radio.Net. This is for stations who want to get onto the network or for advertisers who want their brand to be seen by as many people as possible via Radio.Net.
Inner pages
If you want to watch a particular show or movie, simply click on the thumbnail to watch it.
The website's inner pages are kept in a dark grey, white, and green color scheme. There are options such as Top Stations, Near You, Genres, News, Comedy, Culture, and More Topics. If you click on any of these titles, you'll be provided content in a similar format. As you go over each of these categories, you'll find ten square thumbnails with their channel names. If you want to watch a particular show or movie, just click on the thumbnail to watch it.
I found many different stations to listen to by clicking on the top stations and looking at the different categories. The formats are similar for all of the other categories except More Topics. If you hover over that option, you'll find different niche stations such as Sports, DJ, Politics, Science, Society, Knowledge, Religion, Economy, Language, Interview, Region, and People Music.
Footer
Radio.net has a footer section with five different menus: Company, Legal, Service, apps and social. Under the company menu, there is information about the brand, press releases, blogs, advertising opportunities, and broadcasting opportunities. Under the legal menu, there are standard terms of use, privacy policy and legal notice options. There is also a contact option under service. The app menus have information about iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone and Blackberry. Lastly, under social there are six social media networks - Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, YouTube and Zing.
Content
I have been listening to a lot of podcasts recently and thus I enjoy the massive content library offered by Radio.net. Apart from podcasts, I like their collection of sports radio stations and smooth jazz stations. Recently, I saw my homepage adapting to my taste and thus usually all my favorite podcasts and stations would be present on the homepage itself.
Desktop/Mobile experience
I have a premium version of Radio.net on my iPhone XR and I have to say that it's one of the most amazing apps on my phone. Its airplay feature allows me to use this app on external speakers, and if you're an Android user, you can make use of the Chromecast to stream best podcasts on your smart home devices without any hassle.
Another key feature I like on this app is the offline feature, sleep timer, and radio alarm. If you like to sleep while listening to music in the background, this is a feature you're going to love. Using a sleep timer allows you to play music for a specific period after which it stops automatically. You can use the same tool to even set up an alarm to wake you up in the morning.
Plans & Pricing
Radio.net is free to use, but if you want to upgrade to stream ad-free, you can download the app for $6.99.
Suggestions I have for Radio.net
Sometimes updates can cause unexpected crashes when playing favorite channels. For example, I was listening to WHTZ z100 radio channel and it crashed after every five seconds. However, the issue was resolved later and I would like the developers to look into this issue.
Conclusion
With over 30,000 radio stations on the website, there is never a shortage of content on Radio.net. You'll find channels covering different genres from all over the world. These include rock, pop, hip hop, classical, blues, alternative rock, jazz, electro, and house to name a few. With its app, radio.net has over 10 million downloads on Android phones and nearly a million downloads on iOS devices.
