Every time a movie studio decides to give a script the green light, they are risking everything. For small studios and budding directors and producers, this means the entire success or failure of a certain title is based on experience and intuitions. While major studios don't have to face much hassle because of the established star power, small studios and budding directors and producers don't have the same privilege. For them, they have to get the green-lighting decisions right - or they may be out of business sooner rather than later.
Increased spending on tickets
According to a 2004 report, theater tickets alone accounted for over $9 billion in spending. In contrast, today the number of movies released in Hollywood, Bollywood, and Tollywood averages 2000 per year. So even if you only consider countries within these three regions, the total value spent on movies has more than doubled.
Major franchises stabilizing the overall picture
Studios are able to rake in millions of dollars at the box office and this is influencing the median ROI range. Previously, a majority of films had negative ROI; however, as revenue has increased, studios have been able to offset these losses with margins that are becoming increasingly high. In total, this has led to a decrease in the number of films that end up in negative territory - from 27.2% down to no profit or loss. Sure, there are still some films that lose money, but as long as profits margins remain high, it is easier for the film industry as a whole to take these hits.

My recent experience on r/boxoffice
I recently upvoted a post on this subreddit regarding Christopher Nolan. Within four hours, the post had received over 300 votes. Here, u/chanma50 shared an article from Variety suggesting that Nolan's upcoming blockbuster, Tenet, might be pushed back deeper into 2020 as opposed to its release on July 17th. As per Variety, Nolan wants this movie to revive movie theaters and thus won't take a risk releasing it on the decided date.

The top post managed to garner over 400 upvotes within 3 hours. This number is way ahead of what we saw on animation, entertainment, and gaming related subs. Each post has a considerable number of comments, and the threads are filled with in-depth discussions.
Browsing & Navigation
Overall, r/boxoffice is a great way to learn about the box office standings and upcoming releases.
Reddit Gold
There is a severe lack of gold allocation on this sub, and it's understandable that users don't want to give gold on general information-based content that you could easily find on some source website on Google. Unlike r/askme, which is mostly information-based, and has no original content or creativity that can induce fellow community members to spare some valuable gold, r/boxoffice is mostly creative content with no originality. This makes it difficult for the community to grow and expand.
Box office Resource
I really enjoy the section on Box Office Resources in this subreddit. Under the heading "Essentials," you'll find links to Box office Mojo, Box Office Pro, The Numbers, Box Office Report, Box Office Theory, and World of KJ. Using these resources you can check forecasts, comparisons, updates, and other interesting aspects of a film's impact or predicted performance at the box office.
Filter by flair
The "Filter by Flair" section on r/boxoffice has a variety of options, but I don't think they're all that great. There are only six different flairs, and three of them are labeled as "Worldwide," "International," and "Other." This just doesn't make sense to me since the community is supposed to be global. I would appreciate it if there were more countries included in the selection so that everyone can find the flair they're looking for.
