Anime as an art form has become increasingly popular within the western world. Several aspects such as anime, cosplay, manga, and games have taken over the world. The visual narrative and compelling storylines have been able to capture the imagination of audiences - especially young adults and teens. With great content, the viewers and readers are able to gratify their perception owing to mind-boggling plot and character development. Though anime began its journey in the 1900s, it's only in the last 30-40 years that it's been able to penetrate to other side of society.
History of Anime
.
The oldest anime movie, Imokawa Mukuzo Genkanban?, was released over a hundred years ago in 1917. But in 2005, an undated 3 seconds film consisting of fifty frames was found in Kyoto. As per the discoverer, Naoki Matsumoto, this film can very well predate the original 1917 release. It's incredible to see that an increasing number of people are growing interested in this form of art - which is an inexpensive way of storytelling when you compare it with live-action films. Anime as a mainstream content genre was inspired by Disney's style of animation, most notably, Bambi and ?Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?.
Inspired by Disney
In the early 1900s, Japan's cartoonists drew inspiration from Disney movies to create their own versions. Shimokawa Oten, who rolled out the first five movies, was later succeeded by Kobayashi Shokai, whose technical expertise is still revered and has had a great impact on anime. He has created more than 15 movies as an animator.
I decided to write about Anime's history because it is a multimillion dollar industry today. It's natural that as an anime lover or someone who is just starting to be interested in it, you should know about the heritage. So, now that you have a fair understanding of it, let's jump to our main topic - r/AnimeSuggest.
My recent experience on r/AnimeSuggest
Secondly, I upvoted a post about a new show that's coming out.
Quite recently, I voted on two posts on this subreddit. The first was a suggestion where a user was asking for a Rom-Com where you don't have to wait until the last episode, 2 seasons, or 2 movies for a single kiss. The requirement was clearly stated and thus he was able to generate over 200 responses from fellow anime heads. Secondly, I voted on a post about a new show that's coming out.
My second experience was seeing how many people voted on and suggested a post about a Rich guy/poor girl, old-ish romcom. It attracted more than 370 upvotes and received more than 50 suggestions. That was cool to see, and it showed how many people care about what you watch.

There are 192,000 subscribers to Anime on Reddit. This is a sizable number and it requires more than a couple of individuals to handle the day-to-day activities on this subreddit. At the time of writing this review, there were six moderators on this page - AutoModerator, AnimeSuggestMed, messem10, chiefnoah, Herbrax, and Dorrn JD.
Why should you follow r/AnimeSuggest?
The r/AnimeSuggest community is filled with interactive content. You can ask a question and receive 20-30 responses on average. Even a basic question such as "Is Haikyuu worth watching?" attracts nearly 900 upvotes and 210 comments. The best part about this community is that everyone is super cooperative, so you don't have to think twice before posting a query. Most of the content on this platform revolves around anime suggestions, anime reviews, character development, and listicles.
Community Engagement
AnimeSuggest has a high engagement rate on Reddit. For each post that I browsed today, more than 50 of them had over 20-25 responses. This is such a confidence booster as you know that you can rely on the members of this subreddit. I myself posted a question regarding which anime I should watch next, and based upon my input, many people recommended Death Note. And after completing the series, my faith in AnimeSuggest has grown over time.
Browsing & Navigation
Since the majority of the content on this platform is text-based, you won't experience any loading issues when browsing and navigating across various sections. You can stay up-to-date with the community even when you're on a stable internet connection. There are a few ads in the feed and on the sidebar, but those don't hamper your browsing experience. They're well-placed, keeping the overall user experience in mind.
Reddit Gold
Though the number of upvotes on posts is down, the quality and quantity of comments and interactions make this community a gem. In addition to Reddit Gold, I've seen more than 15-20 golds awarded across popular posts in the past 6 months. This subreddit is fascinating because you'll find more gold being given to comments than to the actual posts themselves. And that's understandable given it's user comments that provide helpful information.
Filter by flair
I'm not unhappy with this particular section of the forum. There are four main options - Meta, What to Watch?, What's this From? (unsolved)?, and Series Specific Question. These are quality filter options given that you can get your queries solved within a short period if you use the right flair. Most of the time, it happens that I cannot recollect a certain scene from a certain anime, and so I just use the image and add What's this From? filter and the fellow community members are at the rescue.
