People love content. Movies and TV shows have become an integral part of our lives, no matter how disconnected we are from the world of show business. For most of us, there's a desperate craving for content that we can't resist. That's why streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and Hulu have become so popular - they provide high quality content at a reasonable price, which is great news for those of us who can afford it or want to pay for it. On the other hand, there are also millions of people who can't afford to pay for each individual streaming service or who don't want to - so they turn to free alternatives.
There are a lot of free alternatives to movie theaters out there. Some popular ones include MovieBox, Terrarium TV, and Cinema APK. Among these platforms, OneBox HD is not as popular but does have a decent following. After all, if there's any place where people can break their boredom and entertain themselves for free, they are going to try to access it.
What is OneBox HD?
OneBox HD is a free Android app that streams content anonymously. Unlike the official app, which is illegal, you can find APKs of the app all over the internet. However, there is no official Google Play Store or App Store app for OneBox HD. As far as platforms go, it's nothing amazing and I would tell you more about it as we progress. So just sit tight!
What should you expect from the OneBox HD App?
There's no denying that OneBox HD does have an extensive library of content. You can watch movies and TV shows using this app in SD and HD quality. Another thing I like about this app is that it's quite light and doesn't take up much space. You'll find the latest entertainment flicks on this app. There are more than thousands of videos on this platform spread across various categories. You'll find all the latest movies that were released in the past couple of years. One thing, I'd like to point out is that the app lacks classic titles.
User interface
OneBox HD has an unresponsive interface most of the time and it's clunky. Don't expect anything extravagant on the homepage or the inner pages. While the content is diversified with several menus and subsections, the overall layout feels bland. Even the touch input is slow and every command takes a fraction of a second. While I can stand tiny hindrances in the user-interface, the presence of pop-up ads just makes the matter worse. It's filled with so many adverts that you won't stick on the app for more than 5-10 minutes.
Reliability
This app really disappointed me. Sure, it seems like the content is pretty deep on the surface, but I couldn't get any streams to work and after reading other reviews and checking out forums, I realized that a lot of people are facing the same issues. It seems like the developers barely put any effort into this app- only 1 out of 10 streaming sessions turned out to be successful for me.
Streaming quality
If you're patient enough and manage to find a link that works, you'll reap the rewards. Though I was disappointed for about half an hour, I did find a stream that worked and the streaming quality was surprisingly good. Not the best, but way better than what the app's design and interface had to offer. It's funny how they even allow you to download the app via Nox and Bluestacks. I mean if you can't get it to work on your phone, why would you even risk your desktop or laptop.
Third-party stream player
The only good thing about this app is that you can stream videos using a built-in external player or an external player. For example, if you're unhappy with the built-in player within Android, you can choose MX Player or VLC based on your preference. All you have to do is to untick the Pro Player option when installing and choose the third-party player. Also, OneBox HD offers a one-click play app once you set it up. So, you can just sit back and relax.
OneBox HD App Information
We've been using the unofficial numbers that the website and other APK streaming platforms provide to figure out which lightweight apps are the smallest. The size of the app is 4 MB, which makes it very lightweight. It was last updated a year ago, and the content on it is updated every three months.
How to access OneBox HD?
You should access OneBox HD directly by visiting the website. It's the safest way to download the official app, since the developers have made it available themselves. If you choose an alternate website, make sure you do it from Malavida or Uptodown. If you use any other website for some reason, make sure to use a VPN to protect your data and your identity.
To be able to stream on the app, you'll need to follow certain steps.
- Click the Download button - Go to Settings > Security > Check Unknown Sources - Install the app.
Design
The app design is pretty average. There's nothing on this platform that will really catch your attention or keep you using it. Yes, there are apps that choose functionality over form, but that's not the case with this one either. Here, both the form and the functionality are subpar. Based on my 10% streaming success rate, you can see how frustrating my experience was with this app. The light gray and dark gray color combination is very similar to what we saw in other substandard apps such as FreeFlix and MegaBox.
App Homepage
Under favorite, you have the same options as on Megabox HD.
When you land on the homepage, you'll find a cluttered header section with categories on the left, sorting and search function button on the right. It's super confusing and gives you a negative vibe right away. Click on the drop-down menu on the left and you'll find the same options that we saw on Megabox HD - Movie?, TV Show?, and ?Favorites?. Under movies, you have ?Update?, ?Rating?, ?Popular?, and ?New?. Under TV Show?, you have ?Update?, ?Rating?, ?Popular?, and ?New?. Under favorite, you have the same options as on Megabox HD.
Inner Pages
The inner page looks like it's from an earlier time. The design is outdated and the video player is terrible. It has misclicks, annoying pop-ups, and substandard toggle options. There are only basic Play/Pause buttons and a fast-forward option on the stream page.
Content
Regardless of how much I dislike the app, I have to admit that the content pool is decent. There are three impressive sections - Movie, TV Shows, and Rating based content. Under each of these categories, I was able to find impressive titles.
Under popular movies, there were titles such as Aquaman, Justice League, Venom, The Boss Baby, Jurassic World, Terminator Genisys, and Jumanji.
There were many TV shows under the category of "TV Shows." These included titles such as "Game of Thrones," "The Flash," "One Piece," "Transformers: Cyberverse," "The Good Doctor," "The Gifted," "Riverdale," "The Walking Dead," and "Friends."
There were other types of content including content rated with diamonds, such as The Godfather, Justice League Dark, and Active Measure. There were also some great titles like The Godfather: Part II and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Lastly there was Pulp Fiction which is always a must see.
Desktop/Mobile experience
I preferred the TV show streaming experience to movies. For one, the streaming success rate was 30% as opposed to 10% I had with movies. But there's an endless wall of pop-up ads that you'll need to penetrate before you reach the end-content. Most of these ads are capable of breaking your persistence and would lead you to uninstall the app. But if you can withstand the storm, there's a tiny chance that you might get to stream without any discrepancies.
Suggestions I have for OneBox HD
There's no way that the developers think or care about this app. OneBox HD comes off as a passive income project which doesn't bother the developers. If the developers are reading this review, almost everything on the app needs to be changed because it's among the worst streaming apps that I've reviewed in a long time.
Conclusion
I don't think I would recommend this app to anyone. Not only does it have a bad design, interface, and smooth functions, but it doesn't even have streaming depth. I remember when the app started, people used to love it but that's no longer the case. And I don't think the developers care enough to make the app better.
