moviemeter.nl
If you're sick of the same old movie review websites, like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, Movie Meter might be just what the doctor ordered. It offers an enormous list of movies, TV series, user reviews, ratings, and news. So far, it's become known as one of the best movie review sites in the world - for both Dutch and international movies alike.
As of the time of this review, there are 139,083 movies in Movie Meter's database. 6,444 TV series are included as well; 19,587 seasons; 426,559 actors and actresses; 270,526 users; and 8,051,180 votes/movie ratings. The best part of Movie Meter is that this site is constantly growing and expanding - thanks to its active and knowledgeable community base. When it comes to movie review sites, few are better than Movie Meter in terms of providing a sense of community.
Do whatever you want with Movie Meter. There are a variety of ways to use the site, from watching and rating movies to commenting on discussions. Whether you're a movie buff or just looking for new ways to spend your time, Movie Meter has something for you.
But don't just take my word for it - the only way to know for sure whether Movie Meter is, in fact, the best movie review site for you is to take a closer look at the site itself and everything that it has to offer. So let's get right to the thick of it, shall we? Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to your new favorite Dutch movie review site, Movie Meter.
Design
Movie Meter offers a great site design for browsing - an uncommon feature of even the best movie review sites. Maybe it's just me, but Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb don't provide a particularly great way to browse movie reviews and articles. These sites are really the most effective when you have a movie, show, or actor in mind that you want to search for specifically. Movie Meter, however, provides a delightful user experience.
The site is inviting, easy to use, and sharp. Honestly, I think it provides the type of site design that makes me want to stay on a site for hours. And I could easily, with Movie Meter. I think this might have something to do with the fact that Movie Meter hasn't succumbed to the typical movie review site design. In fact, this site looks more like an entertainment news site - a classy one, at that.
Movie Meter makes excellent use of the space on its pages, but not in a minimalist or cramped way. There is actually quite a bit of content on the page at one time, but it is all so well organized that nothing feels as if it is competing for your attention. Everything has its place, and every section of the page is clearly labeled and logical, resulting in a very scrollable user experience.
When you land on the homepage, you will see featured news about upcoming movies or favorite actors/directors. This caught my eye first. Just above this, you will find a handy site menu bar. This makes it as easy and simple as it should be to find precisely what you want on Movie Meter. You can choose between news, movies, series, cast & crew, TV, cinema, on demand, buy it, forum, and updates. Each choice also comes with a helpful and dynamic dropdown menu in case you want to get even more specific.
To the right of the central news section of the homepage, you will find a self-contained list of what?s new on demand. This allows users to quickly discover the hottest movies and series available on Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, etc. Keep scrolling down to find another self-contained list of what?s new on sale, side-scrolling menu of popular actors, latest trailers section, and a little feed offering up user reviews.
After clicking into a movie page, you'll be presented with an information page that includes all the information on the movie that can be found on any of the best movie review sites, trailers, ratings, and more. Each movie page (and actor/cast/crew page) is very well presented, with a banner at the top, profile image, and menu. It's super-easy to toggle between movie info, stats, cast & crew listings, voting, filmography, and more. Handily jump between actors, movies, directors, etc. as well thanks to a meticulously organized tagging system and recommendations of related movies, series, actors and so on.
Content and Features
Honestly, I was a little surprised that Movie Meter didn't have all of the features that other movie review sites offer. This is, as far as I can tell, a comprehensive movie review site. Anything that can be done on the best movie review sites and movie rating sites like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes can be done on Movie Meter. As we already covered, you can discover, browse, and organize your favorite movies, series, actors, directors, and other cast members - this is just the baseline of how Movie Meter functions as a movie database. There is much more to it too though; for example you can also find out about upcoming movies and watch trailers for them.
Movie Meter allows users to rate and review movies. This is done by voting on titles, scoring movies and series out of 5 stars. The average rating, then, becomes the official Movie Meter rating. Furthermore, every user on Movie Meter can write reviews to go along with their rating if they so desire. These reviews, though, are left as comments on the movie or series? page. Therefore, other users can reply to your review, making for a very interactive and robust community of movie lovers.
Movie Meter is a site that has a lot of different features. It has a comprehensive movie and TV database, as well as a regularly updated news section. In addition, it keeps its members in the loop about when shows or movies are airing on TV, when movies are being released in the cinema, and other time-sensitive viewing matters. This makes it one of the best sites for movie reviews and information. Thanks to it, you will never have to worry about where or how to watch something again!
Thanks to the on-demand section of Movie Meter, you can keep tabs on what is available on your regional Netflix, Prime Video, or Disney Plus library (as well as what?s to be added to soon). The same is true of movies and series that can be purchased. Movie Meter has a great database of for-sale movies, along with links to purchase them. All of this information, too, is conveniently located on each movie?s profile page.
Overall, I think that this movie review site is one of the best around. It has an active and interesting forum of fellow movie lovers, a great online community, and a beautifully organized database of Dutch and international movies and series.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Unfortunately, there is not currently a mobile app available for Movie Meter. That being said, the mobile site is perfectly optimized and retrofitted for smaller screens. You should have no trouble whatsoever loading and enjoying Movie Meter on your phone or tablet's web browser. There may be a few ads, but that is to be expected. They aren't bad enough to ruin the experience, in my opinion.
