moviefone.com
Moviefone is a useful website for finding out about movies and television shows. Information that can be found on Moviefone includes showtimes for local cinemas, cinema details, film reviews, advance tickets, and television content. The website offers an optimized search tool that makes life easier for movie and tv fans.
After Mr. Moviefone got great feedback on its telephone service, the company was bought and sold a few times in its lifetime. In 2014, the telephone service was shut down, so the company made major changes to their website to appeal to a wider audience.
Website Design
The website design is currently very clean and crisp. It feels futuristic, more so than modern. The layout and color scheme is visually appealing. The gray, blue, and white theme is easy on the eyes. The logo is very plain but straightforward.
There is an enormous advertisement at the top of the page as the header. Advertisements are a necessary evil, but fortunately most of them pertain to movies and television shows, so it's not all bad.
Content
Moviefone provides movie times and tickets, as well as movie details, film reviews, advance tickets, and television content. The primary menu on the website is left to right - movie times and tickets, movies, new on DVD, videos, and news. Behind the scenes content can be found on the website too.
Some of the featured stories on the home page are behind-the-scenes looks and teasers for new movies. Marvel just released a terrific teaser trailer for their upcoming movie starring Scarlett Johanson, and so weâve included information about it in our article written by the Moviefone Staff. The article goes on to embed the youtube video for easy viewing, and the Moviefone Staff do a great job of citing their references directly and linking other important information.
Moviefone brings the tickets directly to you online so that you can avoid running late to the ticket booth. If you live in a city where Moviefone does not have proper coverage, you can still search for theaters and time slots by using their map. There is a large list of cities to browse through, so no matter where you live, Moviefone has probably got your covered!
The movie category is a well-organized section of the Moviefone website. It lists 2020 movies in release date order. The options to filter include year, month, and genre. When you hover overtop the movie poster the website provides the options of watching the trailer, more info, and showtimes. Looking up more info on the movies is useful. Moviefone lists release dates, plot summaries, cast, director, genre, production company, and distributors.
New movie trailers are prioritized according to their release date. The newest trailers are at the top of the list, followed by trailers for movies coming soon, and then trailers for movies in theaters. There are many teaser videos in this section of the website, so it is easy to get lost.
The New DVD Section on the Website Sorts by Release Dates, But It Seems To Be Down at the Time of Writing. If It's Functional, This Feature Would Be Useful.
The video section of Moviefone primarily contains interview-style pieces. Projects seen the most are something called Unscripted. There are celebrity guests, such as John Cena and Craig Robinson, who participate in the show. The cast is varied and focuses on a multitude of different movies and television shows. In the show, the actors and actresses get to answer viewer questions and "go off script." The news content is made up of videos from Unscripted, photo galleries, and behind the scenes articles.
Desktop & Mobile Accessibility
The desktop version of Moviefone is good. The website design is okay. The layout is good. There is nothing particular to complain about. The nice clean look is probably my favorite part of the search engine.
Mobile browsing is okay. It's a scaled-down version of the website with optimized reading features. Navigation is simple, but there's no mobile app to review.
Positives
There is always something new to be found. Additionally, Moviefone has a great app for viewing movies on the go.
Moviefone offers a lot of great features for movie-lovers. The website's unique search engine makes it easy to find what you're looking for. The organization on Moviefone is vast, so you're always sure to find something new. And the Moviefone app is great for watching movies on the go - no need to waste time going back and forth between different websites!
There is a great deal of varied content here, including news articles, videos, interviews, and behind the scenes information. There are many genres to choose from, and something for everyone. The exclusive Unscripted video series is a standout.
I absolutely loved the part of Moviefone that I accidentally found. It was the error page. I clicked on a part of the site that didn't work and received one of the most hilarious error codes of all time. Regina George from the movie Mean Girls stared back at me. The page stated "Stop trying to make this page happen. It's never going to happen." It then listed possible reasons why I could not access it. The reasons included - the link no longer exists, you have the wrong URL, this link is expired, or your hair is full of secrets.
Negatives
There are a few downsides to this website. The design can be forgettable. It's visually appealing, but it doesn't leave a lasting memory. Another issue is that sometimes links don't work. There's also no mobile app, which I find strange for such a long-standing company.
Many people in rural communities will have difficulty using this website because it is focused on larger cities. Unfortunately, searching certain zipcodes yields little to no results.
Improvements Needed
Some improvements Moviefone could make are developing an app which would bring in more traffic on the website and viewers for their content. Additionally, connecting with viewers in more rural locations would be beneficial. Another issue that could be improved upon is the number of bugs and links that are down on the website.
