As a parent, I'm always looking for the best streaming sites for my kids. Unlike things that I give them like candy or video games, I want to find a good cartoon streaming site that is also entertaining, educational, and beneficial. I don't want my kids to just sit in front of the computer screen and watch trash!
Another thing I am always conscious of as a parent is finding ways to save money. Let's face it, kids are expensive! Studies show that a single child, from birth to age 18, on average, costs over a million dollars. And that's not even factoring in the costs of college or the fact that kids are continuing to live with their parents well past the age of 18 these days. Therefore, if you ask me, every bit of money that I can save is worth it.
I'm not complaining - I love my kids. Even if they're the reason I'll never be a millionaire. If you ask me, it's totally worth it. The joy and pride my kids give me is far more valuable than any amount of money, obviously, but still, money is important. Which is why finding the best free cartoon streaming site for my kids isn't enough - these days, with money as tight as it is, I need to find the best free cartoon streaming site for my kids that doesn't have any premium streaming subscriptions attached!
Luckily, there are many great free cartoon streaming sites out there that provide high-quality content for kids. We are living through the streaming revolution, and it is a beautiful time to be alive. Therefore, there are plenty of options for parents on a budget who want to be able to provide premium streaming content for their kids without having to pay premium streaming prices. In fact, there are so many free cartoon streaming sites to choose from that it can be a daunting task, trying to figure out which one to go with.
If you're like me, you don't let your children browse the internet unsupervised, so it's important to take the time to vet each potential streaming site before letting your children watch their favorite cartoons. I've done the research for you and compiled a list of some of the best free cartoon streaming sites, so all you have to do is read my quick reviews to select the right one for your family.
There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing the best streaming sites for kids, but one of the most important is the kind of content the site offers. Each free cartoon streaming site has its own mix of content, so it's important to decide which type of cartoons your children will enjoy.
Which brings me to the site we'll be looking at today, Ketnet. For Belgian families, there is a good chance that this is not the first time you are hearing about Ketnet. Before it became one of the best cartoon streaming sites on the web, it was a popular public children's television channel owned and operated by Flemish public broadcaster VRT. Still airing today, Ketnet airs a blend of locally created programs and imported series. If you still watch TV the old-fashioned way (no shame there!), you can catch Ketnet on VRT3 between the hours of 6am and 8pm every day.
Ketnet is a children's TV favorite that replaced BRTN 3 on the 1st of December 1997. In addition to the classic Ketnet programming, Canvas also airs Ketnet's preschool programming, under the brand name Ketnet Junior. This broadcasts between 10am and 7pm on Canvas. If you're French, be sure to let your friends know about the Ouiftivi, the French version of Ketnet, which is available on La Trois.
If you've cut the cord on traditional TV viewing, you're in luck: a lot of Ketnet programming can be streamed on-demand through Ketnet.be. Not only do you get to watch all of your favorite shows without worrying about time constraints or when they air, but there are games and an interactive site on Ketnet.be that will keep your kids entertained for hours on end.
Design
Speaking of the site design, Ketnet offers a vibrant and fun site design that children will love. The site asserts itself with bright splashes of blues, greens, yellows, and reds, and there are different menus and categories everywhere you look. I think that, aesthetically speaking, Ketnet offers one of the best free cartoon streaming site designs on the web.
I don't think this website is very user-friendly. It's definitely cluttered and chaotic, and I think it's likely that you're going to have to do a lot of browsing for your children. Other free cartoon streaming sites are made so simple and user-friendly that even a child could likely navigate it on their own. I feel like my eye is being led in 100 different directions at one time, as if this website was made for kids with ADD. I think a child could very easily find this to be overwhelming or overstimulating. But, hey, it all depends on the child, right?
Content and Features
There is a lot of content to watch here. Although I list Ketnet as one of the best free cartoon sites available today, I will be upfront with you? There are not many cartoons to watch here. There are some, sure, but the number of free cartoons streaming on Ketnet is far outweighed by the number of live-action series and YouTube style videos.
I have a big problem with the kind of content that is predominantly featured on Ketnet. I like to let my kids explore free cartoon streaming sites that are stimulating (not overstimulating), educational, or substantive in some way. However, Ketnet seems overly concerned with providing a sort of kid-friendly version of popular internet culture.
I found a lot of the videos on this page to be kid's versions of Tik Tok content. This means that some of the videos promote a more superficial way of thinking than I would prefer. For example, videos with titles like "Decide what Sander should wear during Kingsize Live?" and "Create a cool tag for Hoodie actors?" seem to stand out to me. Sure, that sounds fun and all, but can't we blend fun with educational? Maybe I'm being too strict or too unenjoyable of a parent, but that kind of thing matters a great deal to me.
Ketnet, a cartoon streaming site with a wide selection of content, features all of its most popular shows alongside movies and games. It's also worth noting that Ketnet has plenty of educational videos to watch.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Unfortunately, Ketnet does not appear to have any mobile apps available at this time. Nor does it have any smart TV apps, making it far from the best free cartoon streaming site in terms of cross-platform compatibility. However, the browser website is optimized for mobile screens, so it does provide mobile access if you are ever in a pinch. Is it the best mobile site design? Well, not really - but it gets the job done.
