After all, what good is cutting the cord if you can? To cut the cord or not to cut the cord? That is the question. For millions of people around the world, this question was something of a no-brainer. But that has not been the case for everyone. There are just as many people who have been apprehensive about leaving the past behind. And, honestly, I can't say that I blame them. After all, what good is cutting the cord if you can't?
There are many conveniences to traditional cable, like being able to watch shows when they air live. Personally, I miss this functionality from streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.
Now, with so many different streaming solutions, each with their own pros and cons, it can be hard to decide which one is the best fit for you. So far, traditional cable seems to be the most popular choice for people. It's definitely not cheap at around 60 or 70 bucks a month but it does offer a lot of content that you can't find on other streaming services. One downside is that there are a lot of different streaming solutions out there and it can be difficult to decide which one is best for you.
With all the different streaming sites out there and the fact that each one has its own exclusive original content, it's hard to know which one to go with. Between Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, NBC's Peacock, Disney Plus, and Amazon Prime Video (each around $10 a pop), if you want to watch everything then you're going to have to pay at least $70 a month. So the affordability argument for using premium streaming services over traditional cable doesn't really work anymore.
Given that, I think it might make more sense for some people to subscribe to OTT (Over the Top) cable in 2021 rather than assume that it is necessary. At the end of the day, however, it all comes down to personal preference. Some people see OTT cable as a necessity? especially those of us who like our sports. Others are just as happy to binge whatever Netflix and Hulu have available at the time. I'm not here to tell you that one way of watching TV and movies is better than another. I am here, however, to tell you whether Freeform deserves its spot on the list of the best movie and TV streaming sites on the web.
Freeform is a cable network that is popular with teenagers and young adults. It is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, and it broadcasts content that is sometimes meant to target this demographic known as "The Becomers." The majority of what Freeform airs are off-network syndicated reruns, original series, made for TV movies, and feature films.
Freeform, a network with a storied history, is relatively new. It first made its name as CBN Satellite Service, a religious channel before becoming Freeform. Few streaming services have such a rich history as Freeform, so let's dive right in!

History

Freeform originated back in 1977, when it was the CBN Satellite Service. For a few years, it aired only Christian programming. But in 1981, they underwent their first major makeover and started to air a wider variety of content.
On September 1st, 1981, the CBN Satellite Service became the CBN Cable Network and began airing secular programming. The network still aired a few Christian programs, such as those starring televangelists, but most of the programming was oriented towards family-friendly entertainment. Aside from that, the CBN Cable Network became known for airing programs like You Bet Your Life (starring Groucho Marx), The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, and I Married Joan. Some people attribute this lineup as being the main inspiration for the famous Nick at Night block of nostalgia on Nickelodeon.
On January 1, 1988, CBN officially incorporated the word "family" into their network name, becoming the CBN Family Channel. Along with this, the network had become too profitable to continue filing as a nonprofit. That year, CBN officially became a for-profit corporation, International Family Entertainment.
Then, when International Family Entertainment put the channel up for sale, News Corporation put forth an offer that was indisputable. The goal of the company was to transform Family Channel into a network that could compete with cable channels like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, which would take advantage of the rich cartoon library of Fox Kids Worldwide. This is when the network really took off.
Then came the sale to Disney Corporation in 2001 (finally!). For $2.9 in cash, Disney bought The Family Channel from Fox. This was one small acquisition, though, of a serious consolidation that was happening in the cable TV industry at the time, giving Disney a huge share of the world's cable networks and entertainment assets (which continues to grow to this day). At any rate, ABC Family was born as a result of this decision by Disney.
In 2014, ABC Family announced that it would be rebranded to Freeform, moving away from strictly family programming in order to attract a new audience. As of today, Freeform is still known as Freeform, and who knows what it will be known as in a few years from now!

Design

Freeform offers a sleek and user-friendly design that is familiar to anyone who has used any of the big-name streaming services. The site menu bar at the top of the page makes for easy navigation to every corner of the site, and featured titles are displayed in a giant banner below that. You can browse by category and genre below that. It doesn't get any more straightforward than this!

Content and Features

Plus, with Freeform's upcoming app, you can watch your favorite shows on-the-go without missing a beat. Freeform has a lot of classic movies, new original shows, and old made for TV films. Plus, you can watch live TV with Freeform, tuning into your favorite shows as they air if you want to. Or, of course, you can stream all of your Freeform favorites on-demand. Enjoy classic movies like Jumanji or The Hunger Games (the entire series), or watch newer original programming, such as Kal Penn Approves this Message, Love in the Time of Corona, and Grown-ish. Plus, with Freeform's upcoming app you can watch your favorite shows on-the-go without missing a beat.
If you already have a cable provider, I think it would be a good idea to take advantage of every network streaming site, including Freeform!

Mobile and Desktop Experience

The Freeform app is excellent for streaming cable channels on Android and iOS devices. It has a good user rating on the Apple App Store, and many users report that it is smooth, user-friendly, and dynamic.

Pricing and Plans

The one downside of it is that you need to have a cable provider in order to stream movies and TV shows on Freeform. There is no way to sign up as a Freeform subscriber in order to just be able to stream their content. However, if you already have a cable provider, Freeform will be an incredible addition to your growing list of services.
