I've noticed that there aren't a lot of different movie streaming sites out there anymore. Most of the ones I visit just offer the same basic things - movies to watch for free. There are a few sites that are doing something different, but they're not really doing anything that's particularly interesting or unique. These days, it takes a lot to impress me with regards to free movie streaming sites.
I find it hard to tell most of the sites apart. I find them all to be mediocre and unimpressive in terms of site design and the movies that are featured. They always seem to be sourced from sketchy sites and there are too many ads for my taste. In terms of content, I feel like it's always big budget Hollywood style movies that are being featured. How many action movies can one person take in a lifetime?
I don't know if you've noticed, but I am getting a little sick of the same old routine - business as usual. I want to find a free movie streaming site that really gets me excited about watching films again. Isn't that asking for too much?
People behind Free Movies Cinema seem to think that it doesn't matter how a free movie streaming site typically works. They've created an intuitive and enjoyable site that's different from most others, with a large selection of movies and few ads.
Free Movies Cinema is a great site that opens my view of what a free movie streaming site could be. It transcends the realm of the traditional streamer to become something else. I mean, sure, it is a movie streaming site in the sense that, obviously, its main focus is providing users with free movie streaming. But, in addition to this, it is also an online community of cinema lovers; it is a massive archive of rare, independent, and underground films; it is a lifestyle blog; it is a free TV series streaming site; the list goes on and on.
Basically, Free Movies Cinema has something for everyone?
In short, Free Movies Cinema is an enjoyable site with a large variety of movies to watch. It is great for movie buffs and those interested in art. I think that it will be especially popular with serious movie lovers, filmmakers, and patrons of the arts. I'll talk more about this later on.
For now, I would like to take you on a tour of one of the grandest free movie streaming sites of all time. Without further ado, I give to you Free Movies Cinema.
History
I'm always a little disappointed when I discover a site like this, one that I really like, and then I can't find out much about it. All I'm able to get is that it first launched in 2006. So this site has had a lot of time to perfect its craft (perhaps that's one of the reasons it's so well done now).
Design
This site looks great. It's easy on the eyes, user-friendly, dynamic, and very organized. I love websites that are clean and minimalistic, and this site definitely fits that description.
Just below the popcorn recipe was a yellow box that read ?Compare & Save.?
Below the slim site menu bar, you'll find a much larger, midnight blue segment with some featured "Fresh new movies." Keep scrolling down to find a quick interruption, white background again, bearing the latest popcorn recipe (it was pina colada, by the way). Just below the popcorn recipe was a yellow box that read "Compare & Save."
The site alternates between big blue tiles of popular documentaries and white segments featuring the latest blog posts. The page ends with the site footer links and text in blue. All in all, I would say that this is one of the best-looking free movie sites I have ever seen.
The site continues to impress me once I click on a film to stream it. The media player is big and sleek. The background is a seamless black, resulting in something of a faux cinema mode without needing to toggle to one, and there are a handful of recommended movies found at the bottom of the page, movies that you might also like based on the movie in question.
Content and Features
Earlier, I made a promise that we would go into greater depth with regard to the differences between Free Movies Cinema's content offerings and those found on typical free movie sites. For starters, Free Movies Cinema doesn't source its movies from shady host sites like most do. Every movie on this site (except for those that Free Movies Cinema hosts itself) comes from either YouTube or Vimeo. This results in a unique index of movies and makes for smooth playback as video quality is high.
One of the things that sets Free Movies Cinema apart from other movie streaming sites is their focus on short films, art films, and indie movies. This is not going to be the site for you if you are looking for mainstream Hollywood releases or anything like that. However, if you appreciate the creative process of filmmaking and like to explore new filmmakers, writers, directors, and up-and-coming actors, Free Movies Cinema will be right up your alley.
Whenever a user posts a new movie on the site, it is given a rating based on the number of likes it has received. This rating corresponds to a trophy symbol that is associated with the movie. For example, if 10 to 99 likes are given to the movie, it will be labeled with a green flame icon. If 10,000+ likes are given to the movie, it will receive a yellow diamond icon. This way, users can quickly determine how popular and quality-wise a particular film is without having to read through all of the reviews.
This website has a vast collection of free movies along with series, playlists, recipes, and more to help make your movie-watching experience even better. There's never a dull moment with Free Movies Cinema!
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Unfortunately, there is not a mobile app for Free Movies Cinema (at least not as of the time of this review). That being said, the mobile version of the website is just as user-friendly and smooth as the desktop site. Viewing in your mobile browser will not be a problem whatsoever.
Another thing I would like to mention is that compared to other free movie streaming sites, Free Movies Cinema deserves an award for how few ads it uses. There are ads before and during some of the videos, sure, but those are the fault of YouTube and Vimeo, not Free Movies Cinema. Please keep up the good work!
