emby.media
In the 21st century, many people find access to a wide variety of media to be an important amenity. Thanks to technological advancements, media has become embedded into our culture and will continue to grow in importance until it becomes an extension of humanity.
Most people I know consume media almost all of the time, whether it's movies, music, TV series, photos/videos/memes, podcasts, social networking, websites or anything else. Almost all these various digital media platforms are propped up across different devices and operating systems. Sometimes we have that thought: Wouldn't it be great if there was just one place where I could access all my content? But there isn't - at least not yet.
If you've ever been thinking about getting a media server, then good newsâthey do exist! They're called software suites or sometimes media servers, and there are several to choose from. It's just a matter of doing your research, figuring out which layout you like best, which lets you view your media the way you want it to be viewed, and which one is not going to cost you an arm and a leg.
A lot of people prefer to access their media on their phones, some on laptops, and others still swear by streaming and viewing their favorite content on computers, tablets, or smart TVs. No matter what your preferences are, you need to find a media server that can cater to your unique needs. First of all, it should be dependable and effective in terms of functionality. That's a given. But you also want a media server that works well no matter what device you happen to be using at a given time. Thanks to media servers like Emby, now any of your devices can become a smart TV.
History
Emby, formerly known simply as Media Browser, is a media server suite that has been specially designed to stream video and audio across any device. The majority of Emby's code was historically open-sourced; however, some of it has been made private in recent years. Additionally, the whole of the software itself, though published directly on the Emby website, is proprietary. It cannot be replicated from the source because the build scripts are left private.
Emby has continued heading down the road to proprietary code. As of version 3.5, Emby relicensed itself and is now entirely close-sourced; the open-source elements that many tech-heads have always loved about Emby, however, are still available in the form of plugins, and a free open-sourced fork of the server has also been developed, known as Jelly Fin. So if you like to experiment with coding and building your own customizations, Jelly Fin will definitely be worth your time to check out.
Many users are able to connect to the Emby client through any of Emby's compatible platforms- such as HTML 5, Android, iOS, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chrome Cast, Apple TV, LG and Samsung smart TVs.
Design
Emby differs from Netflix and Hulu in its design depending on the device you are using it on, but this is only because it is designed for the best user experience regardless of which device you are using it on. Generally speaking, I would say that Emby's design and layout is similar to those of Netflix and Hulu.
Depending on your device, you'll find an extremely easy-to-navigate menu that allows you to toggle by content type, either at the top of the screen or the left-hand side. From here, quickly switch between Channels, Live TV, Camera Uploads, Games, Playlists (including music videos and audiobooks), Collections (including shows from various networks), Movies, Music (including songs and albums), or TV. It doesn't get much simpler than that.
After making your selection from the main server portal, content will be displayed in a way that is similar to Hulu or Netflix. You can browse by genre, watch lists, suggestions, or latest releases. The aesthetic is minimal - just a black background and all of your media conveniently at your fingertips. There is nothing flashy here. Emby definitely has a professional feel to it with its minimal approach.

Desktop and Mobile Experience
As I have already mentioned, one of my favorite aspects of Emby is that it looks and functions great regardless of what device you are using it on. The in-browser version is perfect, as is the Roku and Smart TV version. And what's more, all the versions of Emby are streamlined and synchronized to one another, resulting in a flawlessly seamless user experience across all platforms.

Suggestions that I have for Emby
I don't like that the Emby server doesn't offer any original content. It also doesn't seem to be compatible with the top streaming services, like Netflix or Hulu. So, Emby is going to be mostly useful for people who have a lot of purchased content already. But it's also compatible with cable subscriptions. My main suggestion for Emby is either to make some built-in content or to try and hatch a deal with one of the streaming services, because that's where most of us access our media these days anyway.
Conclusion
If you're the kind of person who prefers to buy content outright than rely heavily on streaming services such as Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, or Netflix, then Emby is probably the perfect software for you. It's extremely convenient and available on just about any device, so you can take your media with you no matter where you go. Emby is a well-designed, dependably functional way to keep in touch with your media files, no matter the type.
If you're a fan of streaming your favorite shows and movies online, you might want to consider Emby. This platform offers an elegant solution for organizing and accessing your media files.
