Bravo TV is an integral part of our lives. Its reality shows are the barest form of our feelings, which people can relate to. That's the reason why many people can stream its programming online. Bravo TV has a plethora of good and bad programs, making you want to watch them all. Its breakout stars and critically acclaimed originals are nothing short of addictive.
I really enjoy Bravo TV. It offers great fashion, beauty, design, food and pop culture content. The narratives are engaging and I find myself tuning in every week due to the compelling content.
Bravo TV - Capturing People?s Imagination
I love the "The Real Housewives" series. When I was asked how people could watch it online, I was excited to hear that Bravo was continuing the show with ten more episodes coming in 2020.
I found out that there had been a lot of buzz about this show, but I didn't realize it because all of the attention was on it. Later, I saw that there had been a lot of queries about ? Dirty John? on my dashboard. This activity is evidence that the content from Bravo TV is able to capture people's imaginations and make them interested in watching. A big part of that can be attributed to the relatability and gossip culture.
History
Bravo was launched on December 1, 1980. It has come a long way since then and focuses on Reality TV now. NBC Universal owns it, and it originally focused on fine arts and creative films. However, over time it transitioned into a Reality TV phenomenon. Bravo is still going strong and is loved by many viewers.
Bravo has always been a home to creative independent, classic and international films. However, in the past two decades, its channel has been able to transition from pure lifestyle and movie content to reality television with shows such as Southern Charm, Shahs of Sunset, Top Chef, and Real Housewives along with its lifestyle escapades.
Design
The app looks cluttered and busy, with a lot of unnecessary content.
I'm not a fan of Bravo TV's website or mobile app design. Sure, the white and dark blue color combination flows well throughout, the layout of the website looks as if it was a news site rather than a streaming network. On the category tab, you'll find shows, episodes, and videos, news, schedule and bravo insider on the left and apps, shop option on the right. The app looks cluttered and busy with a lot of unnecessary content.
If you click any of the options, you'll have an abrupt experience that's not feature-wise but aesthetically. For instance, if you click on Shows > Basically Stassi, a random banner with blue and pink gradient appears which in no way relates to what you saw on the homepage. Thus, the website or app lacks aesthetic uniformity.
Most of the shows on the website don't even have a banner, and when you click on them, you see a cluttered mosaic video arrangement that doesn't make you feel good. There's just too much happening on every page. On each inside page, there are "Most Popular" or "Latest News" widgets randomly placed.
I don't really like the website because the use of hashtags makes it more engaging for the audience, and the TV Guide and Schedule lack any appeal to me.
If you thought that was enough, then wait until you watch their blog section. Overall, it just looks like NBC doesn't care about the visual appeal and is driven by placing content that can help them generate revenue.
Content
I'm not a huge fan of the Bravo TV design or layout, but the content is great. I definitely appreciate that it's one of the most-viewed cable TV channels among female viewers these days, and I think it would be worth paying $4-$5/month for it alone. Bravo TV has generated 109 million live streams in 2017 and 2019, which is growth that's estimated to be +109% YoY. It's also available through Set-top-box VOD, TV Everywhere, so it seems like everyone is getting access to its great content.
?Dirty John? was one of the top five ad-supported cable scripted series in 2018 with an average viewership of 2.4 million. But ?Dirty John? isn't the only thing working wonders for the network, new crop of originals such as ?Southern Charm?, ?Below Deck?, ?Vanderpump Rules? and ?"Below Deck Mediterranean?" are all delivering great numbers. For instance, Below Deck is on par with Dirty John to deliver the best season ever between the age group of 18-49 with an average viewership of 2.3 million.
If you're not interested in the statistics, here's the rundown: Basically, Stassi, Below Deck, Blind Date, Married to Medicine, Project Runway (season 10), Spy Games, Summer House, The Real Housewives of Atlanta along with RHOD, RHONJ, RHOOC? (Dallas NBC Midwest/Dallas Bravo/New Jersey Bravo/Orange County Bravo), Vanderpump Rules (season 4), Top Chef (season 14) and Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
How do you stream content on the Bravo TV website?
Selecting your TV provider and logging in with your credentials allows you to explore similar content offered by other providers.
Desktop/Mobile experience
In comparison, Investigation Discovery allows viewers to view previews on the website before they decide to watch the full episode. Although these previews are quick and do not contain any ad breaks, they can sometimes be difficult to load. Once the preview is loaded, however, viewers have the peace of mind that they will not be bombarded with commercials while watching the full episode.
Some users on Apple's App Store less-than-glad about Bravo Now app's ability to stream on demand content. Why? Because it seems like many of the same issues that have been plaguing the app for years still persist today.
Mobile App experience is horrendous
First, the app asks you to upgrade your cable service or buy complete episodes on iTunes. Then, until you do so, just keep previewing ad-laden poor quality previews. If you're thinking that linking your cable provider was easy, give it a second thought. Regardless of how good it is described on the App Store, forget money - it isn't even worth your time.
Compatibility is the only positive
I like that the digital endeavors of the company are compatible with a wide range of services. It supports DirecTV, Xfinity, AT&T, YouTube TV and Verizon. In addition, by signing up for an NBC Universal profile within the app, I can sync my favorite shows and track the progress. So that's a positive.
