Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach is a German sports club that claims to have been founded in 1900. The team colors are black-white-green, which was used as Borussia Verein für Leibesübungen 1900 eV, the statutory name of that club from then to now with two changes - now there is an additional 'e' at the end for 'er' instead of as with English verbs, so you say B.

The history of the club goes back over a century. The club celebrated its greatest sporting success shortly before 1970, when it won all five German championship titles. Only Bayern Munich managed something so incredible in their league history - especially when you consider how many teams have entered the competition over those decades!

The Fohlenelf's two UEFA Cup victories also fell during this period: the final in 1975 against Twente Enschede (0-0 at home and 5-1 in the second leg) and in 1979. They also reached the final once more, but lost both Male against Liverpool, who beat them 3-2 in 1973 (neither goal was scored after 90 minutes of play and 80 minutes of penalties).

It was a close decision but Mönchengladbach managed to reach the final of Europe's most prestigious club competition: The Champions League. In 1977 they met Liverpool in Rome and Allan Simonsen equalized for them before they lost 3-1 at home that same year.

The only two DFB Cup successes in the last 50 years come from the history of Borussia Mönchengladbach. In 1960 they defeated Karlsruher SC 3-2 in the final and 20 years later they won the league again, this time beating VfL Wolfsburg on penalties. Heiko Herrlich converted all three penalties after Martin Dahlin gave Mönchengladbach a 0-1 lead and Stefan Effenberg left his team in the 80 It took our club almost 30 long seasons to qualify again but luckily he made it.
