Fired up and ready to pursue his dream, Quadir left his life behind as an investment banker in the United States to start his own business in Bangladesh but not before meeting with an investor and philanthropist from New York, Joshua Mailman. Mailman helped Quadir raise the initial funds to get started on his business and since then he's put in 3 years of hard work to gain the support of institutions like aforementioned Grameen Bank and now-partner, Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor.
All of Quadir's hard work eventually paid off. Grameenphone was issued its license for cell phone operation in 1996, via the Bangladesh Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. The company began operating on the 26th of March 1997 - Bangladesh's Independence Day.
Since the early 2000s, Grameenphone has grown to become the leading cell phone provider in Bangladesh. The Village Phone program, which began in Quidar's initial dream, has come to fruition in 2015 with the launch of Bioscope.
