AstonVilla
Aston Villa's official team name is The Villans, but they are also known as 'Villa' and their supporters proudly refer to themselves with an exclamation mark. They were a founding member of the Football League (1888) AND the Premier League (1992).
- They say once you've seen a football game at Villa Park it's hard not to be drawn in! I myself have never experienced anything like this before; I was totally absorbed by every moment on the field and felt like I was there with everyone else to experience something special.
For many years, beginning in the late 1960s, Aston Villa was dominated by its chairman and millionaire, Doug Ellis. But in 2006, US entrepreneur Randy Lerner took over the helm of the English football club and took it to new heights unprecedented for an American sports club! Barely a decade into his tenure - with seven domestic league victories, including five FA Cups, and a European Champions League win - Lerner has already won accolades such as English Premiere Club Owner from the Soccer Owners Association International, and hasn't not only because of his financial accomplishments, but also because of what he embodies: the independence within British culture that thrives on sporting success without relying too much on fame and fortune alone.
The most successful English football club has a long history of success dating back to the Second World War. Despite sharing an intense rivalry with their city rivals Birmingham City, Aston Villa sit fourth on our list and one spot ahead of West Bromwich Albion, who are closer to them geographically than any other team in the English top flight
I've read: "In terms of titles in domestic competitions...", referring specifically to clubs competing within England - what do you think that could mean? For example, if someone asked me how many times Manchester United won the PL Premiership over the course of 1917.
The derbies between Aston Villa and Birmingham City are known as the "Birmingham Derby" or "Second City Rivals". This long-standing rivalry dates back to 1879 when both clubs were formed in the West Midlands region of England. The traditional colors consist of burgundy jerseys for the blues fans and sky blue sleeves proudly displayed on a white shirt underneath; moreover, we always wear dark blue shorts that are beautifully combined with socks that are light enough not to distract from the famous jerseys but still offer protection against possible bumps during matches!
