I think that streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video are amazing. I have never seen anything like them before. But I do agree that there is no perfect network media solution for everyone. Some people who love the old ways of sharing files and maintaining their dedicated media server will find it hard to come to terms with modern streaming services.

Some family wants to enjoy their important data on a curated platform. They want to secure their data, and also want to reorganize and streamline all the data into specific folders. Ampache is great for doing this. It helps you store, organize, and access your local files in a seamless manner.
AMPACHE is a music server that helps you organize and store your music, so before we move forward, we should clarify why you would need one.
Why build a music server?
Before the mumbling there was Memphis, before Memphis there was R&B, before R&B there was metal, before metal there was old-school rap, before old-school rap there was rock. What I'm trying to say is that our generations today can be diverse based on their music taste. And regardless of which era we love, we like to hold on to our collection from those days. Do you get my point? Each individual in a family has a specific music taste and it's hard to maintain your own personal catalog of music.
What is Ampache?
Ampache is a free media server that can also be used as a web-based audio file manager and software. The software was originally designed to take advantage of Apache's mod_mp3 feature, but since then it has been modified to cater to its individual streaming network.
History
Ampache began its journey in 2001, when Scott Kveton created the OSUOSL at Oregon State University. He later passed the developmental lead to Karl Vollmer, who was in charge of the project between 2003 to 2011. Since then, Ampache has changed hands many times and has received support from over 80 different contributors. Ampache's mascot - Fraz - was drawn by Kirsten and later re-digitized by Ben Shields.

Ampache is a music streaming application that lets you access your music from your local filesystem. It has a flexible catalog that helps you find the content in multiple ways, including by adding sources to your database and connecting to existing accounts with the network. For instance, if you have a subsonic library stored on your hard drive, you can connect it with Ampache and easily import the entire library. You can do so with Beets catalog as well as SoundCloud. Isn't that awesome?
Educational Purposes
A few years ago, a group of Chelsea School students realized that Ampache can be used to develop new accommodations and alterations. They teamed up and configured the Ampache server customized for classroom use. Since then, classroom learning has really been enhanced.
Ampache is always expanding to meet the needs of instructors and students.
Ampache has helped instructors record audios and add them to assignments or instructional text, which allows students to access the audio files individually or in a group, read the text at the same time as they listen, and even have access to the materials whenever they want. In an educational setting, Ampache has been able to bridge the gap between text-to-speech software and audiobooks.

Design
Ampache definitely looks like a company that is on the rise.
The Ampache website has a modern and stylish design with bright colors and white text. The combination of teal blue and yellow makes this website look trendy and current, while the bright colors help to add depth to the design. It seems like Ampache is on the rise, and their design approach is sure to impress
Header
The header section has a lot of options, including Home, Demo, Donate, Download, Documentation, API Info, Forum, and Chat. Besides these features, you also have the profile section with a Twitter icon if you want to connect with social media. The dark background with white text is very eye-catching.
Hero Section
The hero section starts with a yellow background and white text. This section has four different cards - Music Collection, Music streaming, Open Source, and Ampache everywhere. I think the cards could have been more creative if they had been dynamic.
Body
The body section of the website is great because you can see what to expect from the software. There are various images showcasing different elements on the website. For example, the sign-up panel, the settings page, the library, playback template, skins, album arts, track info, and music player. You can also see the desktop version and the mobile version. This is a cool addition because you can set your expectations based upon what you see on the images.
Footer
There isn't a footer section on this website. It's sad to see such a good website without a footer section or navigation option.

Ampache Development & Customization
Since Ampache's release over 20 years ago, it has gathered a dedicated following. People rely on this software as they find it reliable, secure, and easy to use. While the leadership has changed many times in the past 10 years, Ampache continues to develop further and cater to its audience's needs. The development and overall user experience have never been jeopardized amidst ownership hassles.
Ampache's great customization feature really exposes all the lackluster software out there. First, there are various authorization methods such as HTTP, MYSQL, LDAP, OpenID, PAM, and other external methods. You can rewrite the metadata or choose from a pre-existing database. You can list sources as you prefer and you can even enable custom metadata. That's not all - you have complete liberty over each and every element.
Suggestions I have for Ampache
I'm sorry to let my Ampache-loving friends know, but it turns out that Ampache is not universal. It doesn't use codecs that are very relevant today, so it can't convert music in real time easily. But if the developers could work something out, that would be legendary.
Conclusion
Ampache is a great alternative to other software. Its compatibility is incredible and it's an open-source program, so you can customize it to fit your needs. I don't see how you could go wrong with Ampache.
